Write a four paragraph reflection on how you communicate your emotions in the past

I was not always good at expressing my feelings and it took me years to learn that just because I don’t feel like talking about something doesnt mean I don’t care or am upset by what happened. Sometimes, when we are angry or frustrated, our words can hurt more than help us express ourselves better. We need to be able to talk through things so we can understand each other instead of arguing over misunderstandings. When I was younger, I would get mad without thinking first if someone didnt listen to me or tell me they were sorry for hurting my feelings. Now as an adult, I know that sometimes people won’t say exactly what they want to say but will still try to make sure I hear them. It is important to remember that even though some people may have said hurtful things before, they probably meant well. If you think back to times when you felt misunderstood, did you ever find out why? Did anyone apologize for their behavior? Was there anything else going on around that time which might explain why they acted this way?

I learned from experience that sometimes people arent aware of how much pain they cause others. People who act rudely often dont realize that being insensitive hurts everyone involved. Even if someone isnt trying to be cruel, he/she could unintentionally hurt another persons feelings. The best thing you can do is take responsibility for your own actions and learn from mistakes. You should also practice listening carefully to see whether the other person really wants to discuss his/her concerns. Try to respond calmly to avoid getting defensive and losing control of yourself. Remember that anger does not solve problems; only communication helps resolve issues.
